the gym, people always ask "How much can you bench press?". Even though that has nothing to do with your overall level of fitness, its a common frame of reference that people tend to use when assertaining someone's relative strength level. To me, with cars, 1/4 mile drag racing and dyno testing are exactly the same thing. They are the "bench press" that you compare with your buddies regarding your cars. Sure a solo2 autocross or road-course racing may overall be more indicitive of how well your car "performs" but they tend to be tough to compare... a track time is meaningless unless you are comparing cars on the same day on the same course. "Yeah i did a lap at ____ _____ in 2 min, 10 seconds" ???????? Uh... is that fast, or not? :-) Everyone understands 1/4 mile times and rearwheel horsepower.
